We highly recommend you visit these beautiful waterfalls: Harmby Waterfall, Aysgarth Falls and Hawdraw Force. Come and see the power of nature in truly picturesque settings.
HARMBY WATERFALL
Distance - 6 minute drive
Harmby Falls is an attractive and easy to access waterfall located in the small village of Harmby, a short distance to the east of Leyburn in Wensleydale.
Just follow the signs near the Pheasant pub in Harmby and walk down the house drive onto the path. You can hear the thundering water before you can see the falls, tucked away in a little wood. It can be viewed from the bridge above, or there is a little gate in the fence at the bottom of the ravine allowing access to the base of the fall. Well worth a visit.
It's a ten minute visit, children will love it and dogs love paddling in the river. Rude not to have a pint in the Pheasant when you get back up to the main road after exploring.
HAWDRAW FORCE
Distance - 30 minute drive
This spectacular waterfall is one of Wensleydale‘s most famous beauty spots (having been featured in the Kevin Costner film “Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves“). You access it rather interestingly through a pub The Green Dragon in Hawes, where you buy a ticket! The pub is very unique and the waterfall is stunning, if it is sunny you might get to see a rainbow running through the waterfall.
AYSGARTH FALLS
Distance - 18 minute drive
Near the beautiful village of Aysgarth the River Ure tumbles over a series of broad limestone steps which are known as Aysgarth Falls. Including a very pleasant riverside walk linking the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls.
Park in the Yorkshire Dales National Park car and walk through Freeholders Wood, to the Middle and Lower Force, and onto the road bridge to see the Upper Force. It’s well worth stopping for an ice cream at the Mill Race Tea Shop, they do delicious cakes too.
REDMIRE FORCE
Distance - 13 minute drive
There is no handy car park nearby for you to visit Redmire Force although there are a variety of footpaths to reach it. These include some really nice paths along the river either side of the falls. The quickest approach is a direct half mile walk from Berry’s Farm in Swinithwaite follow the signs. Or make a proper walk of it from Wensley along the river Ure, a beautiful walk.
CAULDRON FORCE
Distance - 13 minute drive
This hidden gem is also known as West Burton Falls it is one of the more accessible waterfalls in the Dales with a lovely beckside path leading from West Burton to a great viewing spot for the main drop. It’s apparently fabulous for swimming - although rather chilly.
The local shop I hear does wonderful home made cake and the Fox and Hounds pub in the village has great cask ales and food too.
